Ashmanhaugh, St Swithin's

Church Road, Ashmanhaugh Ashmanhaugh Norwich

St Swithins, set in its own churchyard and surrounded by fields, is Ashmanhaugh's little secret. If you are interested in architecture then you will find the church a treat. It has the smallest and shortest round tower in the county. Some parts date to Saxon times and there are 12th century remains in the North and South doorways. There are possible remains of a Medieval Easter Sepulchre and a former rood screen and 16th century carvings.

But what we see is a small, cosy church that doesn't overwhelm its congregation and is always warm in Winter! We don't have a big congregation, but we make up for that with our welcome to visitors.  The atmosphere at St Swithin's is fairly relaxed and children are included as much as possible even if we don't stick entirely to the rules!  Drawbacks include the lack of running water and no toilet.

Even if the congregation is small most residents perceive the church as an important ‘institution' in the village and they work very hard to support it.

The parish of Ashmanhaugh St Swithin's is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Norwich's safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
